James V. (Jim) Mazzo is Executive Chair of Neurotech, a private biotechnology company dedicated to developing transformative therapies for chronic ocular diseases. In March 2025, Neurotech achieved a historic milestone with FDA approval of ENCELTO (revakinagene taroretcel-lwey), the first and only FDA-approved treatment in the United States for adults with idiopathic Macular Telangiectasia Type 2 (MacTel).

Widely regarded as one of the ophthalmic industry’s most respected business leaders, Mazzo brings more than 47 years of proven executive experience. His global reputation is built on leadership roles that include 22 years guiding Allergan’s North American and European eye care organizations; Chairman, President, and CEO of Advanced Medical Optics (AMO); Executive Vice President of Abbott’s global ophthalmology business; Executive Chair and CEO of AcuFocus; and Global President of Ophthalmic Devices at Carl Zeiss Meditec.

A deeply committed industry and community leader, Mazzo is President of the Ophthalmology Foundation and Board Chair of the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute. He also serves on the advisory boards of the AAO Foundation, AGS Foundation, and the ASCRS Governing Board. He is a trusted advisor to leading investment firms and healthcare companies and serves on numerous public and private company boards.

Eric D. Donnenfeld, M.D., is a founding partner of Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island and Connecticut (OCLI), one of the nation’s premier ophthalmology practices, and is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeons in the United States. He was named Newsweek’s Best Ophthalmologist in the country in 2021, 2022, and 2023, earning near-perfect marks for quality of care, continuity, and adoption of advanced technology.

A recognized pioneer in his field, Dr. Donnenfeld was among the first five surgeons in the world to perform both laser vision correction and laser cataract surgery. Over his career he has performed laser vision correction on more than 70,000 patients — including over 1,000 eye doctors and their families.

Dr. Donnenfeld served as President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) from 2013 to 2014 and is Chief Medical Editor of EyeWorld, the society’s official publication. He is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at NYU and a Trustee of Dartmouth Medical School, and a past president of the Ocular Microbiology and Immunology Group.

A prolific academic contributor, Dr. Donnenfeld has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed papers on cornea, external disease, cataract, and refractive surgery, along with 40 books and book chapters. He sits on the editorial boards of nine journals, holds multiple surgical patents, and has participated in more than 40 FDA studies advancing the technologies that define modern eye care.

A Gregory, South Dakota native, Vance Thompson, MD has performed Refractive, Corneal, and Cataract surgery in Sioux Falls, South Dakota — the state he grew up in — since 1991. After receiving his bachelor’s in Chemistry and Doctor of Medicine degrees at the University of South Dakota, Thompson completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri/Columbia, followed by a Refractive, Corneal, and Cataract Surgery Fellowship at Hunkeler Eye Clinic in Kansas City, Missouri. His fellowship directors were Dan Durrie, MD in Refractive and Corneal Surgery and John Hunkeler, MD in Advanced Cataract Surgery.

He is an internationally recognized specialist in refractive corneal laser, phakic IOL, and lens replacement surgery. He is the Founder of Vance Thompson Vision in Sioux Falls, SD, which has grown to serve the mid and mountain West with nine locations. Dr. Thompson also serves as a Professor of Ophthalmology at the Sanford USD School of Medicine. As a leading international researcher, he has played a key role in the development of the most advanced technologies and techniques for both laser and implant vision correction, and has served as the medical monitor or principal investigator in over 130 FDA-monitored research trials studying laser and implant surgery.

Dr. Thompson is Past President of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and is also on the Executive Committee and President-Elect of the International Intraocular Implant Club (IIIC), founded in 1966 by Sir Harold Ridley. In addition, Dr. Thompson has published numerous papers and book chapters and is co-author of the textbook Refractive Surgery. He has lectured and taught advanced laser and implant surgery to thousands of surgeons around the world.
